Ghana international Felix Afena-Gyan has completed a permanent move from Italian club Cremonese to Turkish side Iğdır FK, signing a two-year contract, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper after Iğdır FK beat off competition from fellow Turkish clubs Esenler Erokspor and Mardin, both of whom had also shown strong interest in securing his signature.
Afena-Gyan joins Iğdır following a productive loan spell at Amedspor, where he helped the club secure promotion to the Turkish Super Lig. Amedspor were keen to keep the Ghanaian on a permanent basis, but Iğdır FK moved decisively to complete the transfer.
The striker first rose to prominence at AS Roma under José Mourinho, emerging as one of the club’s brightest young prospects before earning a €7.5 million transfer to Cremonese.
Although he found regular opportunities limited in Italy, the move to Turkey presents the Ghana international with a fresh opportunity to rediscover his best form.
Afena-Gyan has already signed his contract and is expected to join his new teammates immediately as Iğdır FK continue preparations for the new season, with the club hoping his pace, movement and finishing ability will strengthen their attacking options.
