Gabon vs Ivory Coast Match Preview

Gabon head into their clash against the defending champions with very faint hopes of reaching the knockout rounds. Despite losing both of their first two games at the AFCON tournament, they could still qualify as one of the third-placed teams, but would have to record a convincing win against Ivory Coast and hope Mozambique fail to get a result against Cameroon in the other group game.

The Panthers lost 1-0 to Cameroon in their opening clash and were defeated 3-2 by Mozambique in their second game. They head to the Stade de Marrakech for the first time in this competition, having played their previous two matches in Agadir.

Ivory Coast, meanwhile, need a single point to book their spot in the next round of the tournament, having already gained four points from their first two matches. The defending champions got their title defence off to a perfect start with a 1-0 win over Mozambique in their opening clash, before they were held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Cameroon in their second group match.

A victory over the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-led Gabon side could seal top spot for the Elephants.

Both teams are likely to go on the attack given what is at stake, and the game is expected to open up, offering the attackers plenty of chances to find the back of the net.
