Hamburger SV have opened negotiations with Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer over a new long-term contract to ward off interest from across Europe, according to Africafoot.
The 24-year-old striker, whose current deal expires in June 2026, is understood to be the subject of intense discussions aimed at extending his stay in northern Germany until 2028.
Königsdörffer has become a central figure in Hamburg’s battle for Bundesliga survival this season, featuring 20 times across all competitions and netting two goals.
Despite interest from Premier League side Leeds United and several Bundesliga rivals—including RB Leipzig, VfB Stuttgart, and Union Berlin—sources suggest the forward is “very close” to committing his future to the Rothosen.
Key pillar for survival
Having finally returned to the top flight after a seven-year absence, Hamburg are determined to avoid losing their most valuable assets mid-season.
While the club’s sporting management has faced criticism for failing to offload certain fringe players, the retention of Königsdörffer is seen as a non-negotiable priority for manager Stefan Kuntz.
The Berlin-born attacker, who joined from Dynamo Dresden in 2022, has seen his market value hold steady at approximately €4m. However, his importance to the team’s tactical flexibility—capable of playing across the front three—makes him invaluable as the club enters the business end of the season.

Race for his signature
- Contenders: Leeds United, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig, and Sporting CP.
- Offer: A two-year extension taking him to June 2028.
- Player’s stance: Königsdörffer is reportedly keen to help salvage Hamburg’s season and has responded positively to the club’s latest financial guarantees.
Hamburg currently sit in a precarious position near the foot of the table and face a daunting trip to local rivals St. Pauli this Friday.
Club officials are hopeful that an agreement in principle can be reached before the winter window closes to provide a much-needed boost to the squad.
