Twelve-time Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Kaizer Chiefs FC have initiated contact with fellow South African top-flight side Chippa United over a possible transfer for Nigerian international and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.
This comes after months of interest from Kaizer Chiefs, albeit, without making formal approaches and contact. Meanwhile, Chippa United are open to a sale, should the former match their valuation of the massively experienced shot-stopper.
In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, a source at the player’s representatives David Moss Group, revealed that the talks have commenced between the parties, and that Kaizer Chiefs want to hand Nwabali a three-year employment contract.
โThere have been so many reports regarding Nwabali, but the fact is, the only formal approach came from Kaizer Chiefs on Friday evening. Chippa United are open to sell as long as Kaizer Chiefs agree to their financial demands. Stanley is calm, and won’t rush into making decisions, as he is experienced enough to handle the pressure that comes with such moves. It’s early stages but the talks now exist,โ the source exclusively revealed to Footy-Africa.
Nwabali, whose transfermarkt valuation is estimated at โฌ600,000, has two years left on his contract at Chippa United. He arrived at Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit, Katsina United in 2022. With his current team, he has made 64 appearances, including 26 in the most recently concluded campaign.
The 28-year-old has since established himself as one of the finest custodians in the South African top-flight. He was linked with a move away from Chippa United last summer after impressing for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote DโIvoire, but instead signed an extension.
Meanwhile, internationally, Nwabali debuted for the Nigerian national senior team, the Super Eagles in 2021, and has since accumulated 21 competitive caps. He is now one of the most important players at the Nigerian team.
