Manchester City vs Newcastle match preview

Manchester City head into the clash in fine form, having defeated Salford 2-0 in their previous outing in the FA Cup fourth round. The Cityzens are second on the league standings with 53 points after 26 matches and have reduced the gap between them and Arsenal to just four points ahead of the remaining rounds.

City have won 16 of their league matches this season, recording five draws and losing five times as they continue to keep pressure on the Gunners as they look to reclaim their title. They also recently defeated Newcastle over two legs in the EFL Cup semifinal, securing a 5-1 aggregate win to progress to the final.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United head into the clash on the back of an impressive 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round. The Magpies are 10th on the Premier League standings, having won 10 of their 26 games.

They have also lost 10 times and recorded six draws, as they chase qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Eddie Howe’s side also face Qarabag in the playoff rounds of this season’s Champions League, as they hope to win the two-legged affair to reach the Round of 16 of the competition.

Man City vs Newcastle Head-to-Head record

(Last five meetings)

  • 04.02.2026 – Man City 3-1 Newcastle
  • 13.01.2026 – Newcastle 0-2 Man City
  • 22.11.2025 – Newcastle 2-1 Man City
  • 15.02.2025 – Man City 4-0 Newcastle
  • 28.09.2024 – Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Manchester City have held the upper hand in recent fixtures, winning three of the last five and recording one draw as well.

Meanwhile, they also recorded victory over two legs in the EFL Cup semifinal and are currently unbeaten in their last 12 home games across all competitions against Newcastle.

Recent Form: Manchester City

Man City have been very impressive in recent outings and are unbeaten in their last seven across all competitions, winning six of these games and only failing to win in a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the month.

The Cityzens have also kept clean sheets in four of their last five home games and have only lost once at home in the league this season, a 2-0 defeat to Spurs in August 2025.

Recent Form: Newcastle United

Newcastle have won their last two matches across all competitions, but were on a run of five matches without a win prior to that.

The Magpies have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven and have only won three times on the road in the Premier League this season.

Player to Watch: Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City)

Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has enjoyed life since moving to Man City last month and will be hoping to add to his tally of one goal in two games against Newcastle this year.

His blistering pace and runs into the box will surely cause problems for the Magpies defence in the clash.

Prediction

Manchester City have a solid home record and boast enough attacking quality to see off Newcastle and continue their push for the title this season.
