Gambian midfielder Modou Saidy has emerged as a transfer target for Portuguese club Marítimo, with the Liga side expressing interest in signing him permanently from Latvian champions RFS, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.
Marítimo has already made initial contact with the player’s representative, Modou Saidy, to enquire about the 22-year-old’s situation and the possibility of completing a move during the current transfer window.
Saidy has enjoyed a steady rise since leaving Greater Tomorrow Football Club, initially joining an RFS partner club in the United Arab Emirates before completing his move to Latvia. He later gained valuable first-team experience during a loan spell with fellow Latvian club BFC Daugavpils, a period that played a key role in his development.
After returning to RFS, the Gambian has established himself as an important member of the first-team squad. This season, he has started 17 of the club’s 21 matches, accumulating 1,789 minutes of playing time while averaging at least 86 minutes per appearance.
His performances have been equally impressive in the final third, contributing two goals and five assists as he continues to play a vital role in RFS’s domestic campaign.
Saidy is also helping the Latvian champions in their quest to qualify for the UEFA Conference League, with the club competing in the qualifying rounds ahead of the upcoming European season.
His consistent displays have attracted attention beyond Latvia, with Marítimo now exploring the possibility of bringing the midfielder to Portugal. A move would represent another significant step in his career and offer him the opportunity to compete in one of Europe’s established footballing nations.
According to Transfermarkt, Saidy currently has an estimated market value of €350,000.
