Nigerian winger Mustapha Isah Ubandoma has completed a permanent move to Belgian outfit La Louvière from Norwegian club Kristiansund for an undisclosed fee.
While the financial details of the transfer have not been made public, sources in Norway have exclusively told Footy-Africa that the deal represents a club-record sale for Kristiansund. The 22-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at the Belgian side until 2029.
Ubandoma leaves Norway after establishing himself as one of the country’s most promising Nigerian exports. During his time in Scandinavia, he also featured for IK Start and Danish club Randers, gaining valuable experience before earning his latest move.
A source involved in the transfer told Footy-Africa that the winger felt the time was right to take the next step in his career after proving himself in Scandinavian football.
“I cannot really say much, but he has paid his dues in Scandinavia and feels it is time for a new challenge to see how far he has come,” the source said. “He is excited about the move to Belgium and the opportunity to test himself in another competitive league, where he believes he can continue to improve his game.”
“Kristiansund treated him very well, but football is about knowing when it is time to move on. The timing was right for him to seek a new challenge, and I believe he will shine in Belgium. The club are also happy because it is a record transfer for them. No player has previously been sold for that amount, so it was a deal that made sense for everyone and will help the club financially.”
Developed at Abuja-based HB Academy, Ubandoma is a direct and skilful winger renowned for his blistering pace, close control and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.
He made 13 league appearances for Kristiansund this season, scoring once and providing one assist. Now, the Nigerian will be hoping to make an immediate impact in Belgium as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.
