Ghana international Nicholas Opoku has been formally introduced as the latest addition to UD Las Palmas, completing his switch to the Spanish second-tier outfit ahead of the new campaign.
The experienced centre-back, 28, agreed a two-year contract with Las Palmas earlier this month before travelling to the Canary Islands on Wednesday, August 18, to finalise his move.
Opoku completed his medical examinations upon arrival and was subsequently presented to the media, officially beginning the next chapter of his career in Spain.

The defender arrives with a career shaped by experience across several major European leagues. Having emerged at Ghanaian top-flight side Berekum Chelsea, Opoku went on to establish himself abroad with Club Africain in Tunisia before earning a move to Italy, where he featured for Serie A outfit Udinese.
His career also took him to France with Amiens SC before he continued his journey in Turkish football.
Opoku joins Las Palmas on the back of a productive 2025/26 campaign with Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig. He featured 30 times for the club, accumulating 2,435 minutes as Kasimpasa successfully battled their way to safety.
His final appearance of the campaign underlined his defensive qualities. Opoku delivered a composed performance against eventual champions Galatasaray, helping Kasimpasa claim a 1-0 victory while keeping a clean sheet against the league’s strongest side.
At Las Palmas, the Ghanaian is expected to bring leadership, physical presence and top-level experience to a squad determined to mount another promotion challenge.
The Canary Islands club narrowly missed out on a return to La Liga last season after finishing among the top five in the 2025/26 La Liga Hypermotion campaign. Their promotion hopes ended in the play-off semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Malaga.

Opoku’s arrival therefore forms part of a wider restructuring exercise at the club following several departures during the summer. With Ruben de la Barrera now at the helm, Las Palmas are assembling a squad that combines seasoned professionals with emerging talent from their academy.
The Ghanaian defender’s experience across Ghana, Tunisia, Italy, France and Turkey could prove particularly valuable as Las Palmas seek to turn last season’s play-off disappointment into a successful promotion campaign.
