Belgian Challenger Pro League side Patro Eisden Maasmechelen have completed the loan signing of Ghanaian forward Raymond Asante, with his manager Samuel Anim Addo confident the move will finally provide the 21-year-old with the consistent playing time he needs to reignite his career.
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Samuel Anim Addo explained that the decision to move Asante on loan was driven purely by the need for regular football.
“From Udinese, where he set records at the Primavera side, the idea was that Charleroi would give him the platform to grow with consistent minutes,” Addo exclusively told Footy-Africa. “Unfortunately, that didn’t happen the way we expected.”
“He got a few minutes here and there, but he still played an important role in helping the club qualify for the Conference League. After that, things changed. The manager stopped using him in the way he should have been used. Raymond needed more time on the pitch.”
Despite limited chances in the top flight, Asante managed to make an impact in Belgium’s lower division, scoring goals and gaining valuable match rhythm — a reminder of his attacking instincts and versatility.

Patro Eisden, currently pushing ambitions of their own in the Challenger Pro League, moved quickly to secure the Ghanaian forward after closely monitoring his progress.
“They have seen his qualities,” Addo added. “He is direct, he can score, and he can also create chances for others. Their manager believes in his abilities and wants to make good use of him.”
The loan spell is viewed as a crucial opportunity for Asante to rebuild confidence, regain momentum, and showcase the talent that once made him one of the most talked-about young strikers in Europe.
“This move is very good for Raymond,” Addo concluded. “I believe he will make the most of it, and I know he’s going to make us proud.”
Asante first caught the attention of European football during his time with Udinese’s Primavera side, where his prolific goalscoring exploits earned him a reputation as one of the most exciting young finishers in youth football. His rise prompted Belgian top-flight side Sporting Charleroi to secure his services in 2024, viewing him as a long-term attacking option.

However, opportunities at Charleroi proved limited. Since his arrival, Asante has made just 10 top-flight appearances, including only two outings this season, as he struggled to establish himself in the senior setup despite flashes of his quality.
