Amid reports of interest from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes, the camp of Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu has denied any negotiations with his current club, Southampton, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Earlier in the week, reports claimed that Rennes had opened talks with both Onuachu and Southampton, and had made an approach with the intention of securing his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
However, while not ruling out potential interest, a source at the playerβs representatives, CMG Sports, exclusively denied any contact with Rennes, asserting that only Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor have made a formal move.
βI cannot rule out interest from teams across Europe given Paulβs ability and experience. But I can confirm that there hasnβt been any contact from Rennes at this point, which means there are no talks. The only confirmed approach is from Trabzonspor, who are very keen on bringing him back to the club,β the source told Footy-Africa.
In 28 appearances across all competitions for Southampton in the recently concluded season, Onuachu β whose Transfermarkt valuation stands at approximately β¬6 million β scored four goals and provided one assist. However, it is his outstanding numbers from his previous loan spell at Trabzonspor that have reignited interest in him.
During his stint with the Turkish side in the 2023/24 campaign, Onuachu scored 17 goals and registered four assists in just 25 matches. The experienced striker has also played for Genk in Belgium, and for Midtjylland and Vejle BK in Denmark.
Internationally, Onuachu has earned 24 caps for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
