Reports suggesting that Portuguese giants FC Porto are pursuing Ghana international Gideon Mensah have been dismissed as inaccurate by sources close to the player’s representatives, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The AJ Auxerre defender has recently been the subject of transfer speculation following another solid campaign in France, but his camp insists no contact has been made with the former UEFA Champions League winners.

Mensah, 27, has been one of Auxerre’s standout performers this season, featuring in 10 matches and contributing one assist from his left-back role. His consistent displays have reportedly caught the attention of several European clubs, including Sheffield United and Royal Antwerp. However, claims that FC Porto are among his suitors appear to be wide of the mark.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, a source close to HC, the agency managing Gideon Mensah, clarified the situation.

“Contrary to recent reports, FC Porto have not made any approach or expressed interest in signing Gideon Mensah, formally,” the source said. “We’ve seen several stories linking him to Porto and other clubs, but at this stage, there has been no contact from the Portuguese side or any other team.”

Gideon Mensah uncertain about Auxerre future amid transfer interest

The source went on to emphasize that the Ghanaian full-back remains fully focused on his current club.

“Gideon is happy at Auxerre and committed to helping the team achieve its goals this season,” the insider added. “When the time comes to consider a move, it will be done in a professional manner and in the best interest of both the player and his club.”

Mensah’s contract with Auxerre runs until June 2026, and while the French outfit could reportedly consider offers around €2.5 million in January, no formal negotiations have been initiated. The former WAFA star continues to attract interest thanks to his maturity, pace, and tactical awareness, qualities that have made him a key figure in Ghana’s recent international fixtures.

For now, speculation linking Mensah to FC Porto remains just that, speculation. Unless the Portuguese club make a concrete move, the Black Stars defender’s immediate future looks set to remain in France, where he continues to thrive as one of Ligue 2’s most reliable left-backs.
