Captain of Berekum Chelsea, Prince Anane, has made a heartfelt appeal to the Ghana Football Association following a devastating armed robbery that claimed the life of his teammate, Dominic Frimpong.
The horrifying incident unfolded on the Bibiani–Goaso highway near Ahyiresu as the team was making its way back from a league fixture. According to reports, heavily armed assailants intercepted the team bus, triggering chaos and panic among players and officials, who were forced to scatter into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.
In the midst of the confusion, Frimpong was tragically shot in the head while trying to flee. He was quickly transported to Bibiani Government Hospital, but medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.

Speaking to Akoma FM in Kumasi, a visibly shaken Anane emphasized the urgent need for structural changes to ensure the safety of players during long journeys.
“My appeal to the GFA is that, going forward, there should be strict measures to prevent clubs from traveling long distances after matches,” he said.
“If the away team’s destination is more than three hours away, the team should stay overnight and travel the next day,” he added.
Despite the trauma, Berekum Chelsea safely completed their journey home.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, messages of support and condolences have poured in from across the football community, as teammates, fans, and officials mourn the loss of Frimpong and stand in solidarity with his grieving family.
