The 2026 summer transfer window has officially closed in most leagues across Europe, producing one of the most dramatic deadline day stories in recent history. Several African stars made high profile moves over the course of the summer, switching clubs in search of new challenges and more trophies.

However, several others were unable to complete their desired transfers due to aeveral reasons and were forced to remain at their current club at least for the first half of the 2026-27 season.

Here are the top five African tramsfers that failed to happen this summer.

  • Lamine Camara (AS Monaco to Chelsea)

  • Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray to Arsenal)
  • Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace to Liverpool)
  • Krepin Diatta (AS Monaco to Lyon)

Lamine Camara (AS Monaco to Chelsea)

Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara dominated the headlines during the final few hours of the transfer window after a failed move to Premier League side Chelsea.

The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to the Blues after the departure of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City and a deal had already been agreed between both Chelsea and AS Monaco.

However, the deal was heavily dependent on Folarin Balogunโ€™s move to Everton as well. The French club initially rejected offers from Cbelsea, before they agreed on a fee. However, they pulled the plug on the transfer just a few minutes before the transfer window closed, leaving the young midfielder to remain at the club for now.

Yankuba Minteh (Brighton to Liverpool)

Another African star who failed to earn a transfer move this summer is Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh. The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

However, the Seagulls continued to reject various offers for his signature and while it looked like he would still leave on deadline day following the arrival of Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez, he ended up staying at Brighton and will be part of their plans for the season.

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray to Arsenal)

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen faced an uncertain future for much of the summer transfer window as interest in his services grew across Europeโ€™s top clubs.

The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG and then Arsenal were all interested in adding his quality to their attack.

However, Galatasaray continued to reject offers for his signature, while Arsenal also could not convince him to take a pay cut to join them as well. This meant Osimhen remained in Istanbul, where he has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season with five goals and two assists in three games this season.

Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace to Liverpool)

Senegalese forward Ismaila Sarr was also denied a move away from Crystal Palace this summer. The 28-year-old enjoyed a stunning campaign last season, finishing as the top scorer of the UEFA Conference League and was a subject of transfer interest mainly from Liverpool and also Galatasaray.

However, Crystal Palace were never keen on letting him go after losing most of their players to other clubs in recent seasons.

Even with talks lf a deadline day move to Liverpool, nothing materialized and Sarr has remained at Crystal Palace.

Krepin Diatta (AS Monaco to Lyon)

Senegalese versatile defender Krepin Diatta rounds up this list as he remains a free agent after failing to complete a move to French side Olympique Lyon from Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco during the summer window.

The 27-year-old ended his time at Monaco last season after his contract expired and was free to negotiate with a new club.

While Lyonโ€™s interest was genuine, nothing materialized and saw him end the window without a club for now.
