Top 5 highest earning African players in La Liga

The La Liga is the top-flight of Spanish football and in recent years, it has seen a significant rise in the number of African players making their mark, highlighting the continent’s growing influence on football.

Many of these African stars have delivered outstanding performances for their clubs and have been rewarded with huge earnings.

From Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams to his national teammate Thomas Partey, here are the top five highest-earning African footballers currently in the Spanish La Liga per Capology.

Inaki Williams (€274,038 per week)

Top of this list is Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams, who earns a whooping €219,231 in basic wages and €54,808 in bonuses amounting to €274,038 per week. The Ghana forward’s annual earnings amounts to about €14.25 million.

The 31-year-old who became the club’s first-ever black captain at the start of the season, signed a long-term contract at the Basque club back in 2019, is also the club’s third-highest earner.

Brahim Diaz (€175,240 per week)

Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz ranks as Africa’s second-highest earner in the Spanish La Liga, with a total income of €176,240 per week. The Moroccan winger earns a basic salary of €140,192 and an additional €35,048 in bonuses, taking his annual earnings to about €9.1 million.

The 26-year-old rejoined the Spanish champions in 2023 after spending three seasons on loan at AC Milan and could be set for a new contract before the end of the 2025-26 campaign, with his current contract expiring in 2027.

Sofyan Amrabat (€150,240)

Closely following his Moroccan teammate, former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat’s total weekly earnings of €150,240 ranks him third on this list. The 29-year-old was signed permanently by Turkish side Fenerbahce in the summer after spending last season on loan at the club.

However, he sealed a season-long loan move to Real Betis on summer transfer deadline day, where he has become a very important member of the squad.

Thomas Partey (€100,000)

Ghanaian midfield maestro Thomas Partey left Arsenal in the summer after five years and moved to Spanish side Villareal, where he ranks as the fourth-highest earning African player in the league.

The 32-year-old earns about €100,000 per week, with €80,000 basic salary and a further €20,000 in performance-related bonuses, amounting to around €5.2 million annually.

Mouctar Diakhaby (€95,192 per week)

Guinea defender Mouctar Diakhaby completes this list with a total weekly earning of about €95,192.

The Valencia defender takes home a basic salary of €76,154 and an additional €19,038 in bonuses.
