Turkish Super League side Trabzonspor have joined the growing list of clubs tracking highly-rated attacker, Rogers Mato, following the initial interest from Scottish side Hearts, Footy-Africa can exclusively report.

Hearts recently opened talks with an initial offer in the region of £300,000, but Vardar swiftly turned it down, insisting the proposal fell well short of their valuation. The Skopje-based club are holding out for a fee closer to £600,000 and have made it clear they are in no rush to lower their demands.

Footy-Africa understands that Trabzonspor have now formally entered the race, making preliminary enquiries over Mato’s availability as they look to strengthen their attacking options during the January window.

Vardar instantly reject Hearts’ £300k bid for Rogers Mato

The Turkish side are monitoring the situation closely and could make a move as talks between Hearts and Vardar continue.

“Trabzonspor have asked about Rogers Mato and are fully aware of the situation with Hearts,” a source close to the negotiations told Footy-Africa. “Vardar want around £600,000 and they believe there will be more offers before the window closes. Hearts haven’t walked away, they are still pushing.”

Mato, 22, has emerged as one of the most exciting young wingers in the region, impressing with his pace, directness and attacking output since joining Vardar. His performances for both club and country have attracted interest from several European sides, with Hearts and Trabzonspor currently among the most serious suitors.

The Uganda Cranes international’s contract runs until December this year following a six-month extension, a factor that places Vardar under some pressure to consider a sale this month rather than risk losing him for a reduced fee later. Nevertheless, the club remain firm on their valuation and are braced for intense competition as the window progresses.

While Hearts continue to explore alternative targets, Mato remains a priority for the Tynecastle club. With Trabzonspor now in the mix and Vardar unwilling to compromise on their asking price, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive in determining the winger’s future.
