Trabzonspor have increased their offer for Wolfsberger AC midfielder Chibuike Nwaiwu, but a gap in valuation remains between the two clubs, according to journalist Yunus Emre Sel of Sabah Spor.

The Turkish Super Lig side have tabled an improved bid of €6m (£5m) for the 21-year-old Nigerian, as manager Abdullah Avcı looks to bolster his midfield options for the second half of the season.

However, it is understood that Wolfsberger management are holding out for a fee closer to €10m (£8.3m) before they consider sanctioning a move for one of their prize assets.

The state of play

Negotiations are ongoing between the two parties, with Trabzonspor hoping that their latest offer—which aligns with the player’s current market valuation—will be enough to break the deadlock.

Nwaiwu, who has been a standout performer in the Austrian Bundesliga this term, is currently under contract at the Lavanttal-Arena until June 2027. This long-term deal gives the Austrian club significant leverage in negotiations, allowing them to stand firm on their valuation.

Why Nwaiwu is in demand

The interest from Trabzon, currently chasing European qualification in Turkey, comes as no surprise. Nwaiwu has earned a reputation as a robust “engine room” operator, capable of breaking up play and transitioning quickly into attack.

  • Contract until: 2027
  • League Appearances: 37

The €4m difference in valuation remains the primary hurdle. Trabzonspor are reportedly wary of overextending their budget but view Nwaiwu as a long-term investment who could provide significant sell-on value in the future.

What happens next?

The Turkish transfer window often provides late drama, and Trabzonspor are expected to remain in contact with Wolfsberger officials over the coming days.

Whether the Black Sea Storm will return with a third offer or if Wolfsberger will soften their €10m stance could determine if the Nigerian makes the move to the Medical Park Stadyumu before the deadline.
