Former Ghana international and striker Tony Yeboah exclusively for Footy-Africa has indicated and asserted that his compatriot, AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo made the right decision to sign a contract extension with The Cherries, despite interest from all over Europe.
Semenyo enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 campaign, scoring 13 goals and recording six assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, which attracted interest from a number of top European sides, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham. However, the 25-year-old chose to stay at the Vitality Stadium at least until 2030.
In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, Yeboah, who played for Leeds in the Premier League, has indicated that Semenyo needed to stay at a club that guarantees playing time, as it works for his stability and continued growth.
“Semenyo has just started to fully prove himself in the Premier League, so he needed a team that can ensure he stays consistent at the top level and Bournemouth gives him that,” – the 59-year-old exclusively told Footy-Africa before affirming; “the new contract is perfect for his development.”
“The new contract is also good for Bournemouth, as he is arguably their most important player. Most importantly, staying active and competitive also plays in the perfect hands of Ghana. I mean, it’s every coach’s prayer that their best players get minutes and stay competitive. Again, I think that the new contract was the best decision Semenyo could make for his career,” Yeboah reiterated.
Before last season, Semenyo had scored eight goals and assisted three times in 36 matches in the 2023/24 campaign. He joined Bournemouth in January 2023 from Bristol City for €12 million. He remains one of the most invaluable players on manager, Andoni Iraola’s squad.
