Ghanaโs Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has struck a composed and assured tone ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026, making it clear that anxiety is not part of his mindset despite rising national expectations.
The Ghana national football team are set for their fifth appearance on footballโs grandest stage when the tournament unfolds across United States, Canada, and Mexico later this year. Drawn into a demanding Group L, Ghana will contend with heavyweight opposition in England national football team and Croatia national football team, alongside Panama national football team.
Five key challenges awaiting for Carlso Queiroz with Ghana at the 2026 World Cup
While the group presents a stern test, Adams remains unshaken. He has already set an ambitious benchmark for newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, challenging him to steer the Black Stars to at least the semi-finals. Yet, the minister insists that his confidence stems from careful planning rather than blind optimism.
“I am doing everything possible to ensure that we do things the right way. I am not nervous, but I am rather calculated in doing things, and if I am convinced about what I am doing, nothing stops me,” Mr Adams told Asempa FM.
“Pressure will come, but I will not let it consume me as a Sports Minister,” he added.
Ghanaโs campaign begins with a clash against Panama on June 17, followed by a high-profile encounter with England on June 23, before wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
After underwhelming exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, the West African side is eager to restore its reputation on the global stage.
