Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has delivered an inspiring message to his Black Stars squad, urging the players to seize the opportunity before them and create a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
As preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the experienced tactician challenged his players to rise above expectations, embrace the immense responsibility of wearing the national colours, and commit themselves to a journey that could redefine Ghana’s football history.
Speaking during a team session focused on Ghana’s rich World Cup heritage, Queiroz reminded the players that their work is only beginning and that greater tests lie ahead.
“Okay, guys, this was only a warm-up. It was only to emphasise the history of the Ghanaian World Cup. Next game quiz, it will be tough,” he said.

The Portuguese coach stressed that every moment in camp matters, insisting that success at the highest level demands total dedication, discipline and a collective commitment to a shared vision.
“So now, we are here together to make history for Ghana. So, remember our responsibility,” Queiroz said.
Beyond performances on the field, Queiroz highlighted the influence the players have on millions of young Ghanaians who look up to them as heroes and role models.
“When kids in Ghana start to put on a shirt with your number, it’s a great responsibility for you when you sleep tonight. Think about that,” he said.
The former Real Madrid and Portugal manager also urged the squad to draw inspiration from the achievements of previous Black Stars generations, noting that they now have a chance to leave a lasting mark of their own on the nation’s football story.
“These guys that they build this history behind us, it’s just a message to us. We have the opportunity in the next World Cup, other guys, they also talk about you,” he added.

Queiroz concluded his address with a passionate appeal for commitment and focus, encouraging every player to make the most of the chance to represent Ghana on football’s biggest stage.
“Let’s put our names, your names, your efforts in the history of Ghana. Alright? Let’s go to sleep,” he said.
The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and will begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field. They will then take on England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before concluding the group phase against Croatia on June 27.
Having reached the quarter-finals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, their best-ever finish at the tournament, Ghana will be hoping the current squad can once again make a deep run and add another memorable chapter to the nation’s proud football history.
