Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo in the exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has hailed his compatriot, Victor Boniface’s imminent loan move from 2023/24 Germany Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen to Italian giants AC Milan, describing it as a “brilliant step” in the striker’s career.
The Super Eagles forward is set to join the Rossoneri on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with an obligation to buy for €30 million. The deal, expected to be finalized in the coming days, will see Boniface swap the Bundesliga for Serie A after an impressive campaign in Germany last season.
AC Milan and Bayer to finalize Boniface’s loan move to Italy
Yobo, who represented Nigeria at three World Cups and played for Everton in the English Premier League, believes AC Milan is the right platform for Boniface to showcase his talent on an even bigger stage.
“This move is perfect and a good step forward for Victor,” Yobo exclusively told Footy-Africa in an interview. “Milan is a club with a rich history, huge expectations, and passionate fans. It’s exactly the kind of environment that can push him to become an even better player.”
Yobo added that Boniface’s style of play would be well-suited to Serie A and to Milan’s attacking setup.
“He has the strength, intelligence, and finishing ability to thrive in Italy. What impresses me most about him is his hunger, he plays with so much determination. Milan will give him the spotlight, and I have no doubt he will deliver,” he added.
The 24-year-old striker scored 11 goals and provided one assists in 27 matches across all competitions for Leverkusen last season, despite being sidelined with injuries on a number of occasions. Overall in his two-year stay at Bayer Leverkusen, he has played 61 games, scoring 32 goals, with 10 assists.
