Stade Rennais are targeting Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu as a key signing for the summer transfer window, with the club aiming to bounce back from a difficult season in Ligue 1.

According to Jeunes Footeux, Rennes’ new sporting director Loïc Désiré has placed the Southampton striker high on his shortlist. Onuachu, who struggled in the Premier League after joining from Genk in 2023, revived his form on loan at Trabzonspor last season, scoring 17 goals in 25 games.

Earlier Footy-Africa exclusively reported that the Nigerian striker is on the verge of returning to Turkey.

Back at Southampton this season, the 30-year-old netted just four goals in 27 appearances as the club was relegated. With Onuachu unwilling to stay in the Championship, both parties are open to a move.

Rennes are yet to make a formal offer, but Southampton are ready to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026. His current market value stands at €6 million.
