Ugandan defender Ronald Madoi is attracting growing interest from Spanish Segunda División outfit CD Mirandés for the January transfer window, Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old, who currently plies his trade with American side Madison Dukes, has been on the radar of several European scouts following a string of commanding performances in the U.S. college league system this season.

Madoi’s potential move comes barely two years after a dramatic contract saga with Wakiso Giants FC, which saw FIFA intervene to declare him a free agent. That ruling paved the way for his move abroad, initially to Italian side Lucera Calcio, before he later made the switch to the United States.

Now, Footy-Africa exclusively understands that Mirandés have already made preliminary contact with Madoi’s representatives, with talks expected to intensify before the winter window opens.

A source at Sepuya Sports Agency, which represents the player, confirmed the Spanish club’s growing interest and hinted that discussions are progressing positively.

“We’ve had strong inquiries from Spain, and Mirandés are very serious about bringing Madoi in,” the source told Footy-Africa exclusively. “They’ve been following his progress in the U.S., and their scouts were particularly impressed with his consistency, pace, and defensive awareness.”

“We believe this is the right moment for him to play in Europe,” the source added. “He’s developed both physically and tactically in the U.S., and a move to Spain would be crucial for his long-term growth. Discussions are ongoing, and we expect clarity before the January window opens.”

Madoi, a product of St. Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende, rose to prominence after helping the school clinch the 2023 National Schools Football Championship. He has represented Uganda at U17, U20, and U23 levels, winning the 2017 CECAFA U17 Championship and the 2022 CECAFA U20 title in Sudan, where Uganda booked a place at the AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt.

If the deal materializes, Madoi will become one of the few Ugandan defenders to feature in the Spanish second tier, continuing his steady rise from school football to the international stage.
