Rabat turned into the heartbeat of African football on awards night, as Moroccan stars and institutions delivered a clean sweep that left little doubt about the country’s rising dominance on the continent. Amid the glitter and fanfare, Uganda also proudly secured its moment on the stage.

The hosts snatched the headline accolades, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi crowned Men’s African Footballer of the Year, reaffirming his status as one of the continent’s elite performers. On the women’s side, Ghizlane Chebbak of Al Hilal cemented her place among Africa’s football royalty by claiming the top women’s honour.

The CAF Executive Committee meeting, chaired by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe is currently underway in Rabat, Morocco🇲🇦 ahead of the CAF Awards 2025.

Some big names, however, walked away empty-handed. South Africa’s celebrated duo, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and QPR’s rising star Tylon Smith, both missed out on what many believed were strong chances for silverware. Williams, in particular, surrendered his long-held throne as Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year to Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.

Even club football delivered an upset. Mamelodi Sundowns, a powerhouse many expected to reign again, were beaten to the Club of the Year award by Egypt’s Pyramids FC.
