Gambian youngster Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh has successfully completed his medical examination with Saudi Pro League giants Al Ahli and is now set to sign a five-year contract with the club in the coming hours, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The transfer from Norwegian side Tromsø IL is valued at approximately €7 million and will see the 19-year-old become the most expensive player ever sold by the Norwegian club. With all formalities now completed, the deal has been finalized and the player is expected to be officially unveiled by Al Ahli before the end of the month.
Kinteh’s move concludes one of the most closely followed transfer stories involving a Gambian player this summer. The highly rated prospect attracted significant attention following an impressive campaign with Tromsø, where his performances and underlying statistics established him as one of the most exciting young talents in Scandinavian football.
Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge made a late attempt to hijack the transfer and worked to convince both the player and Tromsø to reconsider the move. However, despite their efforts, the Belgian side was unable to compete with the overall package offered by Al Ahli, and the Saudi club ultimately secured the player’s signature.
A key figure in completing the transfer was Kinteh’s agent, former professional footballer Cherno Samba, who successfully negotiated a lucrative long-term contract for his client. The agreement is understood to be a life-changing deal for the young Gambian and will place him among the highest-paid Gambian footballers currently playing professionally.
Kinteh’s move to FC Köln hinges, Leeds and Saudi Arabian giants still in the race
The move marks a major milestone in Kinteh’s rapidly developing career. Having impressed in 33 appearances for Tromsø, he now takes a significant step onto one of football’s fastest-growing stages, joining an ambitious Al Ahli side that continues to attract top talent from across the world.
For Tromsø, the transfer represents a historic financial achievement, while for Kinteh it is the reward for a breakthrough season that has transformed him from a promising young prospect into one of Gambian football’s most valuable exports.
