Swedish giants AIK have beaten Portuguese side Maritimo to the signing of highly rated Ghanaian winger Nana Kofi Donkor, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that AIK reached an agreement with Georgian club FC Dila for the transfer of the 19-year-old, who is expected to undergo a medical before signing a four-year contract.
Donkor enjoyed a breakthrough campaign while on loan at Dinamo Tbilisi, where he registered four goals and one assist in 15 league appearances, attracting interest from clubs across Europe.
Footy-Africa understands that Maritimo were the first club to make formal contact over a potential move and held discussions with the player’s representatives. However, the Portuguese outfit were ultimately unable to meet FC Dila’s valuation of the Ghanaian, opening the door for AIK to complete the deal.
Sources further indicate that AIK’s sporting project proved decisive in convincing Donkor to choose Stockholm over a move to Portugal. The Allsvenskan side presented a clear development plan for the winger, assuring him of regular first-team opportunities and a pathway to continue his progression in European football.
The Swedish club views Donkor as one of the continent’s most promising young wide players and believes the move aligns with its strategy of developing emerging talent before they make the step to one of Europe’s top five leagues.
Donkor joined FC Dila from Ghana in July 2025 before spending the season on loan at Dinamo Tbilisi, where his direct attacking style quickly earned him recognition as one of the Georgian top flight’s brightest young talents.
Comfortable operating from the left wing, the right-footed attacker has built a reputation for his pace, close control and willingness to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. His performances have seen his stock rise considerably over the past year.
