Crystal Palace are set to keep Christantus Uche on loan until at least the end of the season, despite the forward’s limited involvement so far, according to The Standard report.
The 22-year-old joined the Eagles from Getafe on deadline day in the summer, with an agreement that would see the move become permanent if he starts 10 Premier League matches. However, Uche has featured sparingly, clocking up just 44 minutes in the league during Palace’s impressive opening to the campaign under Oliver Glasner.
Those minutes included a lively appearance from the bench in last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Fulham, where the Nigeria-born forward caught the eye during a 24-minute spell at Craven Cottage.
Palace sources indicate there is no intention to cut short the loan, and Uche himself is understood to be keen to remain in south London as the club push for a place in the Champions League.
Palace sit fourth after 15 matches, having suffered only three defeats. Glasner may soon need added attacking depth, with Ismaila Sarr a potential AFCON absentee should he recover from injury, while Uche is unlikely to be called up by Nigeria.
No return to Spain: Uche determined to fight for Crystal Palace spot
The Palace manager has asked for attacking additions in January, but Uche’s recent cameo may yet earn him a bigger role.
