Nigerian-Dutch defender Endurance Alade in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has said he is targeting a move to one of Europe’s top leagues in the future but insists his immediate focus remains on development.

The 20-year-old, regarded as one of the brightest young defensive prospects in Dutch football, currently plays for Vitesse’s under-21 side and has also trained with the club’s first team.

Born in the Netherlands to Nigerian parents, Alade recently signed a new contract with Vitesse and has featured for both the under-21s regularly and trained with senior squad as he continues to build his profile.

“It was a proud moment for me,” Alade exclusively told Footy-Africa about his new deal and training with the senior squad.

“I felt grateful for the opportunity, but also very focused. My mindset was simple: stay calm, do the basics well and help the team. It motivated me even more to keep pushing and proving myself.”

Alade has played four of Vitesse’s seven matches in the Eredivisie Under-21 competition this season and has regularly trained with the first team.

While he admits to having ambitions of reaching the elite level, the defender says patience is key.

“Every player dreams of reaching the highest level, and top European leagues are definitely a goal,” he said. “But for me, it’s step by step. Right now, my focus is on development, consistency and becoming the best version of myself. If I do that well, the next level will follow naturally.”

The Eredivisie has a strong reputation for producing defenders, and Alade says he draws inspiration from players who are comfortable in possession.

“I admire defenders who aren’t afraid to step in, dribble forward and take responsibility on the ball,” he added. “Players like Jurriën Timber and Lutsharel Geertruida show that, and Benjamin Fredrick is also someone I think does very well. I try to learn from that bravery and composure in my own game.”

As he continues his progression, Alade paid tribute to the coaches who have helped shape his career, singling out his current coach Nicky Kuiper.

“I’ve worked with many coaches over the years, and each of them taught me something,” he said. “But a coach who has really helped me grow is Nicky Kuiper. He believes in me, gives me confidence and constantly challenges me to improve. That trust has been very important for my development.” He concluded
