Gambian youngster Suwaibou Kebbeh has been recalled by Swedish top-flight club Hammarby IF following an impressive loan spell with Superettan side GIF Sundsvall, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The highly rated attacker will now join Hammarby’s first-team squad for the first time this season as the club prepares for the remainder of its Swedish Allsvenskan campaign. The decision reflects the club’s growing confidence in the 19-year-old’s ability to contribute at the highest level of Swedish football.
Kebbeh only joined GIF Sundsvall on loan in March 2026, but his performances quickly convinced Hammarby that he was ready for the next step in his development. After just 13 league appearances, the parent club opted to cut short his loan and integrate him into the senior squad.
The Gambian’s rapid progress has not gone unnoticed elsewhere. Several clubs from both the Superettan and the Allsvenskan expressed interest in signing him, while an English League One club also explored the possibility of securing his services.
However, Hammarby made its position abundantly clear, insisting that Kebbeh is not available for transfer and remains an important part of the club’s long-term plans.
According to Footy-Africa’s information, the club’s determination to retain the youngster was further demonstrated earlier in the transfer window when it rejected a €1.5 million offer from fellow Allsvenskan side Mjällby AIF. The decision underlines Hammarby’s belief that Kebbeh’s value, both on the pitch and in terms of future potential, exceeds the financial proposal received.
Kebbeh’s recall represents another significant milestone in his career as he prepares to make the transition from Sweden’s second tier to one of the country’s leading clubs. With Hammarby placing its faith in the young Gambian, he now has the opportunity to establish himself in the Allsvenskan and continue his rise in European football.
