Ikorodu City director Wale Quadry in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa says the club has no doubt about the Nigerian winger Maliq Musa‘s potential is to reach the very top of the game.
The 18-year-old has completed a move to Belgian side Zulte Waregem, joining on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent.
“He started from our academy in Ikorodu and proved himself before we promoted him to the main team, where he made his debut at 16,” Quadry exclusively told Footy-Africa.
“Maliq did not show any fear. He played like an experienced player alongside the other boys in the main team. He’s a winger with real pace and good dribbling ability.”
Musa’s rise had already caught attention beyond Nigeria’s shores. Quadry revealed the youngster had been on trial with Swedish club AIK Stockholm and even received an invitation to trial with Barcelona, before Zulte Waregem moved to secure his signature.
“He has been abroad for a while, attending trials with AIK Stockholm and even got an invitation from Barcelona,” Quadry added.
“But Zulte Waregem have now signed him, and all we can do here in Ikorodu City is wish him all the best. He has the talent to be one of the best wingers in the world, and we’re all excited for him.”
Musa, who turned 18 on Monday, now joins a growing number of young Nigerian talents making the move to European football, with Belgium’s top flight increasingly serving as a gateway to the continent’s bigger leagues.
