Newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City have completed a deal for Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Sky Blues sealed promotion to the English top flight after a 25-year absence by winning the Championship last season and have continued to strengthen in their bid to stay longer in the top flight.
Awoniyi, meanwhile, had faced an uncertain future at Forest after falling behind the pecking order at the club in recent seasons.
The 29-year-old, who was initially a key player for the club, eventually lost his place due to injury and fitness problems, while the addition of several other attacking players saw his game time reduced.
He has now completed a move to Coventry City, where he will be hoping to help Frank Lampard’s side with his experience and goalscoring record to enjoy an extended stay in the English top flight.
Transfer fee and contract details
Coventry City have agreed a deal worth about £9 million ($12 million) to sign Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.
The Super Eagles forward will wear the number 14 shirt at the club, although the length of his contract has been not been officially disclosed.

According to Capology, Awoniyi earned around £3.25 million during his time at Nottingham Forest and while his wages remains undisclosed for now, it is expected that he earns slightly above that amount.

From Nottingham Forest to Coventry City
Awoniyi joined Forest from Union Berlin in 2022 and went on to score 23 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions for the club.
The Nigerian striker has now embarked on the next phase of his career and will be hoping to hit the ground running beginning with Coventry’s opening Premier League game at Arsenal on Friday.
