Inter Milan are expected to make a decision in the coming days on whether to exercise their buy-back option for Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, sources have exclusively told Footy-Africa.
The 20-year-old spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Pisa, with the agreement including a clause that allows the Serie A club to sign him permanently for β¬7.5 million.
However, Inter retained a buy-back option worth β¬8.5 million, meaning Pisa would stand to make an immediate profit of β¬1 million should the Nerazzurri choose to bring the midfielder back to San Siro.
Reports from Italy suggest that Pisa have already informed Inter of their intention to activate the permanent transfer clause after being impressed by Akinsanmiro’s performances during his loan spell.
Despite that, Inter continue to hold the player in high regard and are now weighing whether to trigger their buy-back option. Footy-Africa understands a final decision is expected within the next few days.
Akinsanmiro is understood to be open to remaining at Pisa, where he is likely to enjoy more regular first-team football. Opportunities at Inter could be limited in the immediate future, with another loan move a possible outcome if he returns to the club.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro: Four destinations for Nigerian youngster in the transfer window
The midfielder joined Inter from Nigerian side Remo Stars and progressed through the club’s youth ranks before gaining senior experience during a loan spell at Sampdoria.
He moved to Pisa last summer and went on to make 24 appearances during the campaign, helping establish himself as one of the club’s promising young talents.
His performances also earned him a first senior call-up to Nigeria’s national team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Akinsanmiro is currently spending his off-season in Nigeria while awaiting clarity over his future, with both Inter and Pisa weighing up their next move before a final decision is made.
