Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka speaking to Footy-Africa in the mixed zone after the match stated that Nigeria’s tactics were key to their victory over Tunisia in Fez on Saturday.

The Super Eagles beat the Carthage Eagles 3-2 in a Group C clash of the giants to secure qualification for the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“It is good for the team because the game plan worked really well and we are happy to be through to the next round,” Onyeka told Footy-Africa. “We pressed them high and did not give them any chance to play their game, and that is what made the difference.”

Nigeria endured a nervy finish after Tunisia reduced the deficit with two late goals, and Onyeka admitted the team must improve in closing out matches:

“We were three goals up and we allowed them to score two goals, and I think that is something we need to work on in training so we can get better.”

Nigeria’s next fixture is an inconsequential final group game against Uganda, and the Brentford midfielder says the Super Eagles will approach it with the same mentality.

“We are going to play the same way and hopefully we get the maximum points against Uganda,” he concluded.
