Turkish club Trabzonspor are exploring the possibility of signing Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana on a permanent deal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper joined the club last summer on an initial loan deal from Manchester United and helped them to victory in the Turkish Cup.

However, he has now returned to his parent club, although talks are underway over the details of a return to the Papara Park after an impressive season.

Profile

Onana joined Manchester United in 2023 under former head coach Erik Ten Hag after impressive spells at Ajax Amsterdam and Inter Milan, where he helped them to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League in the 2022-23 season before they were beaten by Manchester City in the final.

However, he struggled to impose himself upon his arrival at Old Trafford and his time at the club was marred by several high-profile mistakes.

The 30-year-old has excellent distribution skills and is also very confident on the ball and he showed his quality in his first season in Turkey, where he made 33 appearances across all competitions for Trabzonspor, helping them to a third-placed finish in the league, as well as sealing victory in the 2025-26 Turkish Cup.

Potential transfer breakdown

Andre Onana is valued around €10 million according to Transfermarkt, which ranks him as the sixth most valuable player at Trabzonspor and the ninth most valuable Cameroonian footballer in the world.

Manchester United have reportedly set an asking price in the region of around €40-50 million before considering any transfer, as they look to recoup the €50 million they paid to Inter Milan for his signature in 2023.

However, reports have also revealed that the three-time European champions could consider offers in the region of €20-30 million in order to offload the goalkeeper and reinvest the funds in their budget for the summer.

Agreeing personal terms with Trabzonspor should not be difficult, and if the Turkish Cup champions can match Manchester United’s asking price, the move would see Onana become the most expensive signing in their history.
