Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their chase for Uganda Cranes forward Steven Mukwala as the Soweto giants quietly intensify plans to bolster their striking department when the transfer window reopens in January, Footy-Africa exclusively reports.

Mukwala, now a key figure at Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC, was heavily discussed at Naturena before the start of the current season. Back then, reports from Dar es Salaam and Footy-Africa suggested that Chiefs’ head coach Nasreddine Nabi had even made a discreet trip to Tanzania to accelerate negotiations. Talks stalled, Simba held firm, and Mukwala remained in Msimbazi.

However, Footy-Africa can authoritatively reveal that the South African giants have not shelved their interest. Fresh developments indicate that Chiefs have once again placed Mukwala high on their January shortlist, and this time they intend to submit a formal approach.

Sources intimately familiar with the situation confirmed that Chiefs have already initiated preliminary groundwork.

“Yes, the interest is real and active,” one insider exclusively told Footy-Africa. “Kaizer Chiefs have made it clear that Mukwala is among their primary offensive targets. They believe his profile fits exactly what they’re missing, and they’re preparing to engage Simba officially. At this point, everything depends on the offer that comes in.”

Simba, on their part, are reportedly willing to consider a sale should the right proposal be tabled, a stance that heightens the possibility of movement in the coming weeks.

Mukwala’s rise has been steady and well-earned. After emerging from the Vipers ranks in Uganda, he sharpened his craft at Maroons FC and URA FC before venturing abroad. His standout season with Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko showcased his goal-scoring pedigree, paving the way for his switch to Simba, where he has continued to develop into one of East Africa’s most reliable forwards.

With Chiefs desperate for a clinical finisher and Mukwala thriving at both club and national team level, the January window promises another chapter in this long-running transfer pursuit, one that could finally reach its conclusion.
