Footy-Africa can exclusively reveal that Kelechi Iheanacho is carefully considering a new contract offer from Celtic as he weighs up the best move for the next stage of his career.
The Nigerian international joined the Scottish champions last summer and played his part in helping the club secure both the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup.
Following the expiration of his contract at the end of the season, Footy-Africa reported a few weeks ago that Celtic were keen to retain the former Manchester City striker with a fresh deal.
The Scottish giants have now tabled an official contract proposal, but sources have told Footy-Africa that Iheanacho and his representatives are currently assessing the terms before making a final decision.
Footy-Africa understands that discussions are ongoing over the financial package and the length of the contract. While no agreement has yet been reached on those details, negotiations remain positive and both parties are confident a resolution can be found.
It is understood Celtic’s offer is for an initial one-year deal, with Iheanacho taking his time to evaluate his options amid strong interest from elsewhere.
The 29-year-old is also attracting attention from Turkey, where Besiktas, Bursaspor and Samsunspor are all monitoring his situation.
Bursaspor are believed to have offered Iheanacho a two-year contract, but the Nigeria international is reportedly pushing for a three-year deal before considering a move however his priority is staying at Celtic.
