Nigeria make a return to the Fez Stadium on Tuesday to face Uganda in their final group game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Morocco, seeking victory to finish top of group C at the tournament.

The Super Eagles have enjoyed a perfect tournament so far, recording victories in both of their matches so far. They started off on a bright note, defeating Tanzania 2-1 in their opening encounter.

The three-time African champions then recorded a 3-2 win over Tunisia in an entertaining affair in their second game last weekend. The victory sealed their progress beyond the group stages for a 16th consecutive time, since they failed to make it out of the group in 1982.

Head coach Eric Chelle may shake up his lineup against the Cranes to rest some regular starters, although maintaining the top spot in the group will remain a priority. Here are five players who could be crucial for the Super Eagles.

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman has been Nigeria’s most impressive player at the ongoing tournament in Morocco. The Atalanta forward has scored twice and provided two assists in two appearances and also earned the player of the match award in the win against Tunisia.

The 28-year-old will look to continue his impressive form at the tournament with an eye on the prestigious Golden boot award. The clash against Uganda presents another big opportunity to add to his tally.

Akor Adams

Akor Adams made a goalscoring debut for the Super Eagles back in October, but is still looking to score his first goal at the African Cup of Nations. The striker has stood out in both of Nigeria’s matches so far, forming a strong attacking partnership with Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

Adams will now be eager to net his first goal when the three-time champions face the Cranes on Tuesday.

Frank Onyeka

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka started on the bench against Tanzania, but was one of the tactical changes made ahead of the win over Tunisia. The Brentford midfielder brought relentless pressing and work rate in midfield and also gave his side numerical advantage in the middle of the park.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to deliver a similar performance as he looks to make another impact for Nigeria against Uganda.

Bruno Onyemaechi

Bruno Onyemaechi came into the team for Zaidu Sanusi ahead of the win over Tunisia and his impressive performances is certain to earn him another starting berth at left-back against Uganda.

The Olympiacos defender kept the Tunisian attackers at bay and allowed Lookman to be very effective on the left side of the Nigerian attack.

Francis Uzoho

One possible change for Nigeria ahead of their clash with Uganda could see Francis Uzoho replace first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali, who picked up an injury during the win over Tunisia, appeared shaky at times, struggling with decision-making and distribution.

With the knockout stages approaching, he may be given a rest, allowing Uzoho to step in.
