Former Europa League winners Atalanta are considering a move for Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi when the summer transfer window opens.
The Italian club endured a difficult season, finishing outside the Serie A top four and missing out on European qualification. They also ended the campaign without a major trophy, marking a disappointing season overall.
As a result, the club are preparing for a major summer overhaul, which could also see head coach Raffaele Palladino leave and Maurizio Sarri linked as a possible replacement.
Atalanta are also looking to add more experience to their squad, which is why they are reportedly interested in Sanusi, given his top-level experience in European football.
Profile
Zaidu Sanusi began his professional career at Gil Vicente before moving to Santa Clara. He later joined FC Porto in 2020, where he quickly established himself as an important player, helping the club win the Portuguese Super Cup shortly after his arrival.
The 28-year-old also played a key role as Porto won the Portuguese league title in the 2021β22 season, scoring a decisive goal in a 1β0 win over Benfica in a title-deciding match.
However, an ACL injury ruled him out for a significant period and eventually affected his place in the starting lineup. He later worked his way back into the team and contributed again as Porto secured another league title in the recently concluded season.
Potential transfer breakdown
Zaidu Sanusi is valued at around β¬3 million according to Transfermarkt, although FC Porto are reportedly demanding about β¬7 million to sanction a sale this summer.
Summer transfer window watch: Three Nigerian players who could secure big moves
The Nigerian defender is under contract until the end of the 2026β27 season. While Porto are open to extending his deal, they may consider selling him if no agreement is reached, in order to avoid losing him for free later in his contract.
The 28-year-old also earns less than β¬1 million per year, making him an affordable option for Atalanta, who could spend around β¬10 million to acquire the services of the Super Eagles left-back in the summer.
