Real Betis transfer hopes to land Nigerian international winger defensive midfielder Raphael Onyedika come to an end as Brugge refuse to part ways with the player unless their demands are met, AS confirms.

According to the report, at the moment Real Betis explore all the options to find a player for a key position after Johnny Cardoso moved to Atletico Madrid on the €24 million transfer.

Betis’ preseason has undoubtedly suffered from the lack of a solid defensive midfielder, with youngsters and Sergi Altimira, who failed to fulfill the role. Against Como and Malaga, the two defeats with which Pellegrini’s team ended the preseason, the lack of balance in the midfield became too obvious.

However, Real Betis is likely to fail in securing Onyedika’s transfer as his Transfermarkt value is estimated at €20 million, the price tag that has already shut the door on several other interested clubs including Fenerbahce, West Ham, Leeds United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Real Betis’ front office is now debating whether to invest heavily in an emerging talent or bring in a more established and well-known player, but one who costs less, as a starting defensive midfielder. In this regard, the name of Guido Rodríguez has surfaced again. He left Estadio Benito Villamarin a year ago and consistently expressed his willingness to return.

According to AS, Facundo Bernal, Fluminense’s Uruguayan pivot, is one of the youngsters who has also generated the most interest from the Betis technical team.

Onyedika joined Brugge from the Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022 for €9.50 million transfer fee. Since then took part in 148 games, registering six goals and four assists to his name.
