With the countdown to AFCON 2025 now in single digits, Morocco coach Walid Regragui has rolled out a fearsome-looking 28-man squad, one designed not just to compete, but to dominate on home soil.
The Atlas Lions, burdened with sky-high expectations and fuelled by a record run of 18 straight victories, are gearing up for a tournament many believe they simply must win.
Hakimi included despite Injury
The headline news: Achraf Hakimi, despite picking up a nasty ankle injury, is on the list. He’s expected to miss the early fixtures, but Regragui wasn’t about to exclude his most influential player.
The coach made it clear that even a half-fit Hakimi brings leadership his squad cannot do without.
The squad announcement read like a star catalogue: Yassine Bounou, Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri, Morocco’s biggest footballing names are all present and accounted for.

Regragui is sticking with the core that shook the world at Qatar 2022 and has since bullied African opposition.
At the heart of the defence, veterans Romain Saïss and Nayef Aguerd are back to marshal the back line, with Rennes’ rapidly rising Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal getting another chance to impress after a standout debut in November.
Full-back depth remains one of Morocco’s unmatched strengths. While Hakimi recovers, Noussair Mazraoui, Adam Masina and the promising Anass Salah-Eddine slot seamlessly into the rotation.

The midfield, as always, blends artistry with aggression. Azzedine Ounahi, Bilal El Khannouss and Ismael Saibari headline a fluid, ball-dominant unit, supported by workhorse Sofyan Amrabat and the exciting Neil El Aynaoui.
Up top, Morocco look downright frightening. Youssef En-Nesyri and Ayoub El Kaabi form a lethal strike duo, with Soufiane Rahimi, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Ilias Akhomach, Eliesse Ben Seghir and the ever-inventive Brahim Diaz guaranteeing creativity and chaos in the final third. Diaz, in particular, has reshaped Morocco’s attacking identity since pledging his allegiance.
